
Keraton or in its original language is located in the Royal Palace of Yogyakarta city center. Karaton means the place where kings and queens live, or in other words that mean the same Kadaton.
In learning about Javanese culture, this sense meaning a very deep philosophical. Architecture of this palace is the Sultan Hamengkubuwono I himself, who was the founder of the Yogyakarta Sultanate. Expertise in the field of architecture regarded by Dutch scientists – Dr.Pigeund and Dr.Adam it as “architect of the civil Pakubuwono II Surakarta”.
Sultan’s Palace was founded in 1756 by Prince Mangkubumi (Hamengkubu Buwono I) as the center of Ngayogyakarta Sultanate kingdom. At first, the location of the Palace is now the swamp area called Pacethokan Bannerman, who later became a rest house built Ayodya.
Buildings Palace stretches from north to south. Next page from the palace square is called the north and the backyard is south of the plaza. The design of this building shows that the Palace, Tugu and Mount Merapi in one line / axis is believed to be a sacred thing. In the past the Sultan used to meditate in a place on the axis before leading a meeting or giving orders to his subordinates.
The parts of the palace from north to south are: Arch Gladag (have not), Arch Pangurakan nJawi / outside, Arch Pangurakan Lebet / in, North Square, Cultural Complex, Complex Siti Hinggil, Brojonolo Gate, Complex Kamandhungan Lor / north , Gate Sri Manganti, Kompleks Sri Manganti, Donopratopo Gate Complex Kedhaton (the official residence and the center court), Gate Kamagangan, Kamagangan Complex, Gadhung Gate Motel, Complex Kamandhungan South / South, Gate Kamandhungan, Sapit Urang / pamengkang, Siti Hinggil South Complex / south (now called Sasana Hinggil), South Square, the Great Gate Nirbaya (Usually called Plengkung Gadhing).
All around the Palace and included a defense system consisting of the wall / walls.
Sultan Palace Complex is opened every day for the general public from 07.30-13.00 o’clock, except on Fridays until 12.00 o’clock.
